Charlie also started volunteering as a FPE Youth and Family Program tutor in his Sophomore year of High School. He had been looking for a way to be involved in a community service activity at the time. Charlie was inspired by Oprah Winfrey who proclaimed that “helping others is a way we help ourselves”. According to Charlie, Oprah’s wise words “changed me as a person. That especially helped me to understand that life is a lot bigger than just always caring about yourself. Helping others and knowing who they are as people, what problems they had and how I can help change that is what made me a better person today”.
Charlies is grateful for the opportunity he was given to volunteer at FPE. According to Charlie, “these past 3 years were my best years. FPE volunteering not only changed me, but bettered me as a person”.
Charlie is enrolled at the Parsons School of Design in NYC in the Fall. He hopes to major in Fashion Photography and Marketing. He also wants to study social justice and hopefully in the future collaborate fashion with social justice, specifically the black lives matter movement.
Charlie will be missed dearly. Our Youth and Family Program is richer in spirit and in form thanks to the dedication of young tutors who come through our doors every year to help make a positive difference in the lives of others.
