For Yairis and Yennier, homelessness came about when both of them lost their jobs.
Striving to support their three children, they quickly depleted their savings and resorted to selling their belongings in order to feed their kids.
With no extended family to help and no money left to pay rent, the family became homeless and turned to Family Promise Essex.
Thankfully, Yairis and Yennier were able to enter the FPE Prevention and Stabilization program and now have their own apartment. Just like Tara, they meet regularly with an FPE social worker to reach their goals for independence.
Looking back at the last year and seeing how far they’ve come, Yardi expressed her gratitude in a poem. She says she looks forward to the day when she can volunteer with FPE to help others learn from her situation.
Today, Yairis is working full time, Yennier is taking classes to learn English as a second language, and all three children are thriving in school.
